Why do I need high security locks?
Pick and Bump Resistance
Standard locks are vulnerable to common bypass methods like lock picking and bumping. High-security locks use advanced pin configurations, sidebar mechanisms, and hardened materials to resist these attacks.
Key Control
With high-security systems, keys can’t be duplicated at the local hardware store. They’re restricted, often requiring authorization and specialized equipment. This protects against unauthorized copies floating around
Liability Protection
If a breach occurs due to a compromised lock, having high-security hardware in place can demonstrate due diligence—important for insurance claims and legal protection.
Do I need new locks when I move into a new house/space?
Rekeying involves changing the internal pins of the lock so that old keys no longer work. It’s a cost-effective way to ensure previous tenants or staff no longer have access. This option is ideal when the existing hardware is in good condition and you’re simply looking to reset access.
Replacing a lock means removing the entire unit and installing a new one. This is the better choice if the lock is worn, outdated, or if you’re upgrading to high-security or electronic systems. It also allows you to improve the aesthetics or functionality of the hardware.
In short, rekeying is about refreshing control, while replacing is about upgrading the hardware itself. If you’re unsure which route to take, our technicians can help you assess the condition of your current locks and recommend the best solution for your space.
What type of automotive lock work do you offer?
Our automotive services are currently limited to in-shop key cloning for existing, operational vehicle keys. We do not offer fob replacement services at this time.
Additionally, we can re-code most ignition cylinders and door locks when they are brought into our shop. Feel free to give us a call—we’ll be happy to confirm whether we have the correct pin kit for your specific vehicle.
